Many of the following acomplishments below are acompanied by written letters you can read in the referrals/testimonials page.
The staff of Little People's Playhouse Daycare includes, at the moment only me, Cheryl Windsor. I have owned and operated L.P.P. in Newbury Park Ca. for over 15 years now!
I started out knowing I was meant to work with children when I was a young girl. I looked up to my preschool teacher and knew it was what I wanted to do. Later, in the 1980's, when I attended Chatsworth High School in The San Fernando Valley, we had a real working daycare on the property. I participated in Careers with Children for three (3) years, and during that time I joined FHA-HERO. (It's like the 4-H club, but for childcare). I competed in the Nationals event, and took home third place :)! I also started my marionette career around then as well, volunteering my time at the Chatsworth Library, performing for the children! Sometime later, I also did a show for the Conejo Valley Days Events. For the last two years, I have done shows for "Stand for Children", a huge event the Conejo Valley Day Care Association (which I am a member of => http://www.cvdca.org/) puts on annually for toddlers.
After high school I started working as a teacher's assistant at Sunflower Montessori School in Reseda Ca. I was there honing my skills for four and a half years! After that, I took a short break to have my son, and then started working at an in-home daycare located in Agoura Hills, Ca. I ran the entire operation from 7:00am - 5:30pm Monday-Friday, with the help of one other assistant. Also, I was running a local church's child care during the Sunday service. I was at the in-home daycare for 9 months before leaving to start my own daycare business.
Since I am a small size daycare (having eight (8) or less a day) I only need an assistant, by law, if I choose to hire one. Past experience has shown that most assistants (unfortunately), are not interested in working with children for long term; it's not their career choice, but merely a job to pay the bills, so it is likely the skills you will be paying for are for less than adequate care. Therefore, hiring helpers doesn't work out too well for me, not to mention all the state requirements needed to have someone else around the children. My 17 year old son, Eddie, and my 13 year old daughter, Destiny, sometimes help out with reading, painting, and blowing bubbles but only after school or in the summertime.
Sincerely,
Miss. Cheryl
